Welcome to a news post for End of Knights!

Well we recently got a wave of new people. Both on the discord and Patreon! For those who didn't know, we had someone post our game on a popular adult game forum. I did knew of the site and I was planning on showing off the game there once I felt the game was ready. Talk about pushed into the spotlight. But no matter, let me start the post off with a quick intro then we can get on with the rest.

                                              Hello and welcome new people! 

It's nice to see so many new faces. I go by Maxwell online or Lusterwolf depending on the site.  I am the owner of Blind Wolf Games. So first off let me say, please understand that this game is still in heavy development. 

End of Knights is my first real game project that I had only planned to work on my spare time after the day job. During the first year, I was the programmer, writer and artist. My background was that of a graphic designer who just wanted to make furry content/games and I pushed myself to learn what I needed to do just that. 

Three years later and well this is officially my longest project. I've learned a lot about every aspect of game development and so much more that one doesn't think about before starting. As such, I've made mistakes, but I do realize them and learn from it. If you look back at the old posts, you'll see them, the over promises or the burn outs. These are mistakes I will try not to repeat again. Not to mention, life does get in the way at times and that is out of my hands. Heck! I've already changed jobs a few times and even went freelance for a while. I wish I had more time in the day to work on this project, that I was full time and spend 40 hours on just this game. So at some point I looked for help.  

This year I got a full team to help me finish this game. These folks are just the best, they all are part of the fandom and joined my group to help me finish EOK. All of them are volunteering their time to help me. As such, EOK has changed a bit since I first started. I am not making this game for myself anymore, their influenced has changed this game. I want to get this game to the point where I can sell it. We plan on releasing to steam and anywhere else we can. Because I need to pay them. They deserve it for believing in this project and I value their work.

Meet the team

That should be it for that intro. We recently just got out of a game pause because we had a lot of the code to fix. Minle, our main coder, had to clean up my earlier code. As such, some features that were already in the game has either broke or been turned off as we add in new systems or fix my broken ones. So bare with us. 

Okay news and game next.

Coding

For this month, I did the main coding for the update. Minle needed more time with the combat items, so I went ahead and added a new feature. That is the travel events! I wanted to finish the full game loop. A while back, I noticed that the travel screen felt more like a stage selector then anything else. To fix that, I added in small events that can change your stats and to show that change I added in a small player status on the map.  Now every so often in traveling, you might get a pop up that explains a story event. I also added in burnt villages, these will serve as a blank location that won't let you enter them. Then finishing off the new code with some risk. If you run out of supplies while traveling, you will then start to lose health points. Reach zero on this screen and you'll get a game over. With these changes I hope to add some opportunities for strategies and some fun.  

Chika has finished their mini games for combat. I still haven't had time to test and verify their work. Once I can check their work then I might show off a GIF of what they worked on in discord.

Art

Most of this month's art hours went towards the travel screen. I added the UI for the quick player status, new background for the map and all the new UI for the event. Our other artist, Gummi, is still working on the new items. They had just recently had to take a pause because of some life problems. But she is back for this coming month. She's working on the rest of the potions. Below is a quick sketch they made. 

Music

Warden is awesome. They made the first travel song and it fits well. We might edit the song later but it's pretty good. The song will currently play while traveling. This month, I plan on moving them to combat music. 

The Plan

Now for the plan going forward. For this month, we are going to try to push for combat items and to release a public build. We were caught unprepared for the new folks and I would like to fix that problem for next time. The current public build is rather old. Being at 0.0.15 vs us now at 0.0.22. I already had some folks give me advice for things that were already fixed in the current build. So that has to change and this means that I might try to do a light update for the game. This will keep the game fair as I want to make sure you all get value from the Patreon and you all are paying for early access. Right now, the public build gets no saving and I might add in less monsters for them to enjoy. I'll make a light post closer to the end of the month about this. 

I hope to update up the Patreon as well. There is still some old information on the main page and the art needs some love. Something I have been putting off.

We plan on starting up a new poll! It's time to pick the next knight in the party. Thanks to Gummi and Brandi, we have an outline of the team roster and since the last poll went so well, we are going to do another. In this poll, you'll be able to vote on what race I should make the next knight. I'll let you all know when the poll will be up. (Public poll is up!)

And that's it for the update and news post. I did say I was going to update the credits with the new patrons but give me  another day. Some payments didn't go thru yet and I want to make sure I get everyone in. Anyone who joined in August will have their name rolled over to the next build at the end of the month.
